Have you ever purchased a recliner chair that you have had problems with from day one ?
For some reason you just couldn't get comfortable on it.
Or you had problems operating it.
It doesn't really matter how nice a chair looks on the showroom floor or how many cool features it has.
If you're not comfortable in it or can operate it easily you're not going to be happy with that recliner.
Probably the single most important thing is a proper fit of the depth and width of the seat.
You want to match that pretty closely with your upper leg length.
Simply put your hips all the way back in the seat.
When you do that and you find that your feet do not reach the floor then that means that the seat is too deep for your leg length. Find a shorter seat.
When you find a seat that works, the nose of the seat cushion will catch you behind the knees and, you'll also have enough leg room so that you reach the floor comfortably.
Some people make the mistake when purchasing a recliner that their feet barely reach the floor and that's not ideal.
What happens over time is that your padding will break down and your position in the chair will change a bit. For example, the lumber padding and this determines how far back you sit in the seat.
So as time goes by it compresses a bit. Therefore, you're actually sitting further back in the seat, so your feet won't touch the floor. Find a chair where your feet reach the floor very easily.
You don't want a big stretch to operate the chair, so get a narrower seat.
Proper Back Fit
The next thing to check is the back.
You just want to sit back and try the recliner in different positions. Make sure in all positions you're comfortable.
Your'e head, neck, shoulders and entire back are sort of cradled and supported uniformly.
You're not finding any padding that's bulging or pushing or forcing your head forward for example.
On the other hand you don't want areas where there is not enough support.
The two most important areas are the seat padding and the back padding.
Sometime people get back issues caused by the breakdown of the back padding.
Consult an upholsterer or repair consultant as to where the padding issues need to be corrected.
One more thing - the height of the seat from the floor.
This is of concern for people getting in and out of recliner chairs.
A lift chair may solve the problem.
Style and Color
Now's the time to to buy your favorite material and color.
But make sure it's on a chair that works for you.
Also, make sure that the manufacturer can supply parts directly to you so that you can keep your recliner chair in good working condition.
